Smithtown is located in Suffolk County, New York. It’s on the North Shore of Long Island. It is located in the New York metropolitan region. It had a population of 117,801 as per the 2010 census. Within the town’s boundaries is the census-designated area (CDP of Smithtown). Smithtown, originally known as “Smithfield”, was first settled around 1665. Legend has it that Richard Smith, who had rescued a Native American chief’s daughter, was told by the chief that all the land that Smith could circle in one day would be his. Smith rode the bull on the longest day (Summer Solstice) to be able “to ride longer in one day”. This land is believed to be close to the current location of Smithtown.

The park also has easy trails that you can follow on a nice day and it has a lake that adds to the serene ambiance of the place. Another great attraction you can visit in Smithtown is Sweetbriar Nature Center. This is a private not-for-profit, 501c3 corporation. Sweetbriar Nature Center occupies 54 acres of diverse garden, woodland, field, and wetland habitats along the Nissequogue River. Here are homes to hundreds of different species of animals and plants.
