The H Lee Dennison Building was dedicated in 1973, and it was Suffolk’s first county executive building. H Lee Dennison was the name given to the $16 million structure. However, there were numerous jokes about the building at the time, as many people believed it would eventually sink. The rationale for this assumption is that the structure was built on swampland.
This Hauppauge edifice was still dogged by the assumption that it would eventually sink after four years. The building was sold for $70 million in 2013. The building was appraised for approximately a third of its selling price in September 2013. Two appraisal firms estimated the building’s value to be between $22 and $ 24 million dollars.
The $70 million payment was made possible by special state legislation that allowed the Suffolk Judicial Facilities Agency to buy the building from the county. The funds for the purchase were generated by selling bonds to interested investors. The H Lee Dennison Building is still home to the Judicial Agency. By 2033, they hope to gain complete possession.
The Youth Bureau, Office for the Aging, People with Disabilities, Budget and Management, Suffolk County Substance Abuse Resource Center, Veterans Services Agency, Intergovernmental Relations, Women’s Services, Suffolk County Leaders in Training Program, and Minority Affairs are among the offices in the building.
Under the Older Americans Act, the Suffolk County Office for the Aging is the official Area Agency on Aging. The Suffolk Local Office for the Aging has been administering federal, state, and county services for people 60 and older for almost 40 years. Most notably, the Suffolk County Office for the Aging serves as an advocate for all senior persons in Suffolk County.
The H. Lee Dennison Building is located at 100 Veterans Memorial Highway, Hauppauge, NY 11788 in Suffolk County, New York. They have a PO Box 6100 where letters and packages can be delivered. Take the Long Island Expressway (I-495) until you reach exit 57 to go to the building. Continue north on Veterans Memorial Highway until you merge onto Route 454, then turn right off the exit ramp. At the second streetlight, turn left and right into the driveway; the building will be on your left. Enter the building at the lower left door and take the elevator to the desired floor.
